Client: UNHCR, the UN Refugee Agency
The partnership between DLA Piper and UNHCR has exemplified the power of cross-sector collaboration, leveraging legal expertise to protect and empower forcibly displaced communities. Together, we worked towards reshaping the intersection of humanitarian and legal sectors, ensuring that refugees are central to global discussions on climate resilience, financial inclusion, and legal protection. DLA Piper’s pro bono contributions have been instrumental in advancing refugee rights, supporting legal frameworks for climate-displaced populations, and driving high-impact initiatives such as the Refugee Environmental Protection (REP) Fund, part of the Climate Resilience Fund. DLA Piper is one of the first corporate organisations supporting the REP Fund, which is pioneering the world’s first refugee-led carbon credit projects, creating green jobs and fostering sustainable resilience in forced displacement settings. Beyond legal support, DLA Piper provided critical emergency funding for crises in Ukraine, Sudan, Türkiye, and Syria, while strategic secondments into UNHCR have strengthened operational capabilities. DLA Piper mobilises resources, advocates for systemic change, and aims to shape policies for refugees’ long-term protection. This partnership sets a gold standard for corporate social responsibility, demonstrating how legal expertise can drive meaningful impact and build a brighter future for those forced to flee.
