Support Fund

British Gas

Client: British Gas Energy Trust

At the end of 2023, 36% of English households were in fuel poverty, more than double the 2020 figure. Rising global energy prices, driven by conflict in Ukraine and market volatility, have intensified financial pressure on households struggling to afford essentials like food, rent and energy bills.

Recognising the urgency for extra support, British Gas launched a £140m customer support fund—the largest voluntary energy support package delivered by an energy company in the UK and Ireland. Built on our long-standing partnership with the British Gas Energy Trust (an independent charity funded by British Gas), the fund provides grants for energy debt relief and financial assistance alongside expert advice, supporting over 64,000 people in 2024.

The package also included direct British Gas customer support initiatives, including the £15m ‘You Pay: We Pay’ scheme, energy bill credits for struggling pre-payment and credit customers, and £15m for business customers to help small and medium enterprises.

Beyond energy support, British Gas donated £2m to charities including Age UK, NEA, Citizens Advice, and Trussell Trust, supporting those facing food and fuel poverty.

We remain committed to tackling the cost-of-living crisis, ensuring no one faces financial hardship alone and can access the support they need.
