GROW Programme

The Get Real experience Of Work (GROW) programme is run by Shelter and funded by Societe Generale (SG) and the Societe Generale UK Foundation (SGUKF). The social change it exists to achieve is to support people with lived experience of homelessness and poor housing to gain access to meaningful and sustained employment via GROW traineeships. This change is vital as many of these people face barriers to employment due to unattainable or inflexible entry requirements, perpetuating a cycle of insecure housing.

The programme was set up for three years and has since been extended to five years with the planned end in March 2026. In total, the partnership will support over 35 GROW trainees completing a 12–15-month traineeship at Shelter, five staff to deliver the programme and support the trainees on their journey and over 4,000 people through the work of the trainees.
